GLOW-WORM CAVES For more than 100 years the Glow worm Cave of Waitomo has attracted millions of people from all over the world. A small glowing insect no bigger than an average mosquito has fascinated and intrigued people from all walks of life. In an average year, 400,000 people travel to Waitomo to experience the trip of a lifetime. Well laid out scenic tracks through beautiful native bush surround the Caves, offer pleasant walks of varying distances. Your guided tour will take you through over 250 metres of stunning underground scenery including the magnificent “Cathedral”. The climax of your guided tour is the boat trip in the Glowworm Grotto.

This ripper of a trip combines the best elements of blackwater rafting with walking, swimming and climbing through dry sections of the spectacular Tumutumu Cave. See awesome cave formations, some of the best stalactites and rock sculpture available, as well as the famous New Zealand glow worms. Suitable for age 12 to adult. Minimum weight of 40kg. Participants must be confident in the water. You will need: Swimwear, towel & socks. Departs several times daily. Duration: 4 hours.

This trip is surprisingly gentle. Abseilers slowly descend the massive shaft, completely in control of their descent. After the 15 minute descent, you embark on a journey back to the surface through the massive vaults of the lost world. You will need: Loose comfortable outdoor clothing, no jeans.

This is the most dramatic abseil of its kind in the world. The descent takes around 10-15 minutes, it's truly awesome! Once down, lunch is served before heading off upstream, walking, swimming and climbing through cathedral-sized vaults. See waterfalls, fossil oysters and whalebones, as well as untold glow worms. Emerge several hours later and head back to Waitomo for a well-earned dinner (all included). You will need: Swimwear, towel and attitude. Departs daily: 10.30am Duration: 7 hours
