TONGARIRO TREK


The Tongariro Trek takes four days, returning each night to the comfort and splendid elegance of The Grand Chateau. You'll be fully guided on each walk, and your guide will explain about the areas of historical and natural significance.

Itinerary

Day 1:
After checking into The Grand Chateau in the afternoon, you'll receive a full briefing on the treks ahead.

Day 2:

Ride two chair lifts from the car park to the Knoll Ridge Chalet, New Zealand's highest restaurant at 2000 metres. From there you'll walk to Dome Shelter at 2672 metres where you'll see the famous crater lake surrounded by snow capped peaks with Mt Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe in the background.

Day 3:

Embark on what is known as the best one day walk in New Zealand - the Tongariro Crossing. Your route takes you past the active Red Crater and onto the brilliantly coloured Emerald and Blue Lakes.

 

Day 4:

Choose from several shorter walks including the magnificent Taranaki Falls, Silica Rapids and Tama Lakes.

 

Day 5:

After enjoying breakfast at The Grand Chateau, there's plenty of time to pack before you leave.

  • 4 nights share/twin accommodation at The Grand Chateau.

  • All meals including dinner and packed lunches for day treks.
